What Does Freedom Really Mean to You?
Jul 04, 2025
July 4 is America’s Independence Day. It marks the day we claimed victory in the Revolutionary War and broke away from England’s control. But the deeper story wasn't just about becoming independent of a country, it was about freeing themselves from the rules, taxes, and structures that kept them stuck and struggling. They believed in something better and acted on that belief.
The people who originally came to America had real reasons for leaving. Many were barely getting by. They felt pushed down, unheard, unseen. They needed a fresh start. Some were escaping oppression. Some were just trying to survive. All of them boarded ships with no guarantees, only hope for a better life in a land they had never seen.
This day isn’t just about waving flags and lighting fireworks. It’s about remembering what the fireworks symbolize. It’s about what freedom meant to the people who built this country, and asking what it means to us today.
Where in your life do you feel free? Where don’t you?
Are you financially free, or still scrambling to cover the basics?
Do you feel free in your relationships, or do you feel stuck, silenced, or invisible?
Are you free to be yourself, or are you always adjusting, pleasing, or holding back?
The truth is, our country was founded by people who were willing to risk everything for the right to live and speak and believe in ways that felt true to them, no matter how different they were. So maybe today isn’t just a celebration. Maybe it’s a check-in. Maybe it’s a reminder that your own freedom matters. And that your inner revolution, your step toward your own independence, might be exactly what this moment is calling for.
So ask yourself:
What’s keeping you stuck?
What needs to change?
What would it look like to step into your own unknown, just like they did?
This Independence Day, let’s do more than celebrate. Let’s reflect. And maybe even reclaim the freedom that brought us here in the first place.
